Editing Blog

I started the editing process yesterday in class. We couldn't use the desktops so i used a school laptop. We took the videos off the person phone who we recorded the videos on and saved them to a laptop and then put them on the thumb drive. Since all the videos were recorded on one of our phones we had to turn everything into mp4's. That process took a whole class period. We had to use a website to turn them into the mp4's and do it one by one. It took longer than expected since we kept forgetting which ones we just did. We were going to just do the videos we wanted to use in our music video but we decided to turn all of them into mp4's. We also were just going to do the longer videos but then we realized we will be using some of the 2-3 second videos. It was a total of 41 videos.
When we were about to start editing we got on the laptops and pulled up pinnacle studios. My group and I waited but after a while we realized that it won't be coming up no time soon. We then wasn't able to edit that class and it pushed us back because we had a plan of doing the editing early and just getting it done. My group member and I then stayed a extra 90 minutes to try and get pinnacle studios to open by using different laptops. After the 3rd try we got pinnacle studios to finally open and we begin editing. We started putting the music videos together the next class. We downloaded the song "no fear" onto the computer. We then turned it into an mp3 and inserted the music into the video. We then went through and selected what videos we wanted to use. We first inserted a picture of the title of the song "No Fear" that we wrote in the sand.
Next we inserted the videos. We had to crop a lot and add videos in between longer videos. This process was quite stressful due to the fact we kept having technical difficulties. The music would stop playing through out the video at times. The videos would start glitching as if they didn't load all the way. It was becoming a stressful process once again. Then we realized don't stress we can use one of my group members laptops to edit through iMovie. My group member then started the whole process over through iMovie and went through the same steps as pinnacle studios with inserting music first then videos. Everything was aligned together the video was nice. Lastly the transitions were added and our music video was done and sent to our teacher.

Final Filming Process

With previously having problems i was kind of worried how things were going to turn out on Tuesday. Before we went to record we were having problems but things got back on track and everyone met up together. After school we went to the beach which was our main location we decided to film at. At the beach there was two actors which was ambi and i. There was two camera men which was Brandon and Naiya. Through out the process we decided to stick to the story board for the most part. We did many shots so we wouldn’t have to go out and film again. We also filmed a lot so we wouldn’t be displeased with what we have to edit with when we got back in class. We shot from many different angles to get different views. We incorporated low angles, high angles, and eye level.
We wanted to get creative so the video wouldn’t be boring. We ended up going by the story board for the first part then just doing our own thing after a while. We did scenes where we were running, holding hands, walking, and just having fun. We did many point of view shots of one another. For having fun we danced around. We also played a childish game of peek a boo. We decided to take two shots of us singing so the music can match the video at certain parts. We started recording when the sun was setting so we had a nice light pink background as the sky. Since the sky was so beautiful we incorporated a scene where we put our hands together and formed a heart with the sky as the background. The heart represented the loving part of the song.
In my mind i believed and had high hope that this video could come out great. With all the shots and everything we filmed i feel like my dream came true. Everyone got along and we succeeded on getting the filming part done. It was a nice vibe through out this process. There was finally peace with everyone just like how it should be especially with the song we picked. Throughout the filming process we had the song playing in background of the video so we could stay on track with the message of the whole video. The message included having fun and loving someone. We incorporated the message throughout the video as much as we could by being happy. We also incorporated it around each other. It was all laughs and fun which made the atmosphere even better.

My journey of the filming process

My journey of the filming process hasn’t started yet I will start to film Tuesday (11/26) after school. We haven’t filmed for many reasons like because we weren’t able to decide on an actual day because everyone is busy. It would be a great idea to film throughout thanksgiving break, but we can’t because one of my group members will be going out of town. It would have been great to film then though because we could have got it all done. I was absent in class today (11/25) but I was called by a group member because there was another disagreement about filming on Tuesday (11/26). One of my group members now don’t want to film on Tuesday which is a problem. We all cleared our schedule and settled on Tuesday but now she wants to change it to fit her schedule. My group and I are trying to ignore having to rush the editing process. With knowledge on how long it takes to edit we want to be smart about not pushing the filming process to close to the due date. I have high expectations for this video, and I want it to turn out a certain way and rushing will cause that not to happen.

I wanted to film on Saturday, but I couldn’t because of a track team car wash I had to participate in. While at the car wash one of my group members and I had a discussion. We talked about how important filming on Tuesday will be. I just feel like the more that things come together throughout this process the more downfalls that occur. Throughout this whole planning process, it’s been causing confliction with everyone. I don’t want to wait to film after Thanksgiving break because in my opinion that’s pushing it way too close to the deadline. The video is due 12/6 and filming Monday 12/4 is not the right thing to do. I can tell there is a lot of tension in the air. When I heard that I must make a music video I got excited thinking It will be fun, but we haven’t even got to record any videos and I’m already aggravated. In my opinion the whole reason of why we haven’t filmed yet is dragging the whole process down.

We all know how good our video can be so If we start the filming process tomorrow, we can make that happen. I’ll be really upset if we don’t.  I hope we can create the video like how it was planned on the story board. From the location to the movements they all went together perfectly it’s just up to us to get our schedules together and make it happen. If all fails tomorrow, we will just have to go with our backup idea of waiting to film until next week. I’m a just have hope and believe that this process will go smooth in due time. Since my group member can’t make it, we will probably still go to our first location to get some filming done. Our first location is the beach. I’m ready to stop stressing and have fun in the music video. Hopefully tomorrow can change my opinion about this filming process.

Planning Music Video

For my group and I project, we will feature our self in the music video with the song “No Fear” by Dej loaf. Each one of us will be responsible for recording a part of our music video. This will take place on Ft. Lauderdale Beach. Places on the beach such as the ice-cream shop, tattoo shop, on the sand and at the park across the street from the beach. We will also have a scene in the car with high hopes. If the beach is not fitting that specific day, we will change location and go to a local
Park. We will test these spots and take multiple footages as well to see what works well for our video throughout the process. We will probably not get every location but we would like to try and get as much footage as possible. For safety purposes, we will get permission first from our parents of course. We will be in a large group to make sure that we are protected at all times, we are aware that is very important that we stay attentive throughout the process and make sure no one is harmed. Our phone will also be on us and well charged incase of an emergency to call 911 or our parents/peers for assistance. In the car we will be wearing our seatbelts as well. Since our video is about having fun and being free, we will be eating ice-cream at the ice-cream shop. We will probably include more other food items depending on how we feel that day to spice up the video. Food makes anyone feel better and since it's a “feel good” song, the food will be a good element. The car that we will be riding around in will be or other prop as well because we want a scene looking out the window while driving past the beach. There will be no specific costume set for our music video. Due to the fact that the weather can change at anytime and we are not sure what we will want to wear the day of filming, it's better we just go with the flow. Permission wise we will ask anyone around if they don’t want to be in the background of our  video and get their consent before recording. We will not be wearing black for obvious reasons.

Music Video Research

It's a new day and the commercial is finally done so it's on to the next assignment. I learned a lot through out process and it was a wonderful experience. I learned how to use pinnacle studios and how to make a whole 30 second commercial. Through out the editing process I didn't know how to add the music to the film so I wish I would of learned more about that.  I learned that planning out a story board is very important because if not it will cause the whole filming experience to be difficult.
The next project is the music video and I'm really excited to do it! I'm ready to know how all the celebrities create their videos and the behind the scenes experience of it.
Today in class we chose our song. The song were choosing is “No Fear”. We are planning to go to different sceneries. The song is an upbeat song that has good vibes. In our video, we’re going to do things that we enjoy. We plan to go to the beach, and do a car ride, get ice cream and just fun things in general. Our main goal is to have a very good time in the video to best match the music.
Hip hop/ Rap is the most common genre in music  and is being played on repeat on our radios. The genre has so many elements to it, to the point where there are over twenty other smaller genres in this hip hop/ Rap genre; Small genres such as lyrical rap and alternative rap was exhibited through our song “No Fear”.
When it comes to the camera angles in the music videos it’s very common to see low angles, long shot, and Dutch. The establishing shot and tracking shot is used in every music video as well as medium long shot.
The music video itself has a lot of sound but there are things that go on beyond that for the whole video to come to life such as non-diegetic sound, sound bridge, and dialogue.
The editing part of the music videos are very creative, i see a lot of cross cutting, eye-line match, and action match. The most popular editing is graphic match when scenes are matching with each other.
There is also mis-en-scene that goes into making the whole video and it includes things like #1 the genre ; In genre's with hip hop/rap the kind of costumes that they wear are things that are popular at the moment so it can be things like designer outfits (Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin) with accessories such as big chains and shades.
2. The lighting in the music videos are usually dark and flashy lights since they shoot the videos in a house. They also tend to switch scenes and go outside to shoot their videos as well so natural light from the sun is also used.
3. Most of the time in music videos it’s usually the artist just singing the song but sometimes there is acting i realized that it usually has to deal with someone being in character and talking on the phone or even acting as if they are having a dance battle like in Chris Brown- No Guidance.
4.As i look closer i notice that everyone does have on makeup but it tend to always be a nice natural look nothing too crazy.
5. To spice everything up props that are commonly used are cars and stacks of money.
6. When researching I noticed a lot of the same settings but some were really different it varied from roof tops, houses, hotels, and some even on train tracks or in the middle of nowhere on an open road but, most were in an urban setting living the “lavish” lifestyle.

Final Editing for Commercial

Blog
In class my group and i grabbed a school laptop and plugged in the usb to finally start editing. Since we were finally able to edit one of my group members started the editing process. He clicked pinnacle studios and pulled up all our videos. We previously selected all the videos we wanted before but they didn’t save. Due to that happening we had to reselect everything. We decided to go with the longer videos so we can get to our 30 second limit then crop videos if needed. We didn’t use the ones with people talking in the back but we did have to use one with birds chirping in the background. After selecting we cropped all the videos and ended up at exactly 30 seconds. We then watched over the video multiple times before we were completely satisfied. We kept having to go back and crop some videos to make it pleasing to the eye to watch.
Editing ended up having to also be done next class and 2 of my group members were out on the second day of editing. Ambrielle and I was left to finish the editing process. Since all the videos were already aligned together we noticed we needed to add music. We asked our teacher what to do and she told us to go to YouTube. Once at YouTube we looked up background music for commercials. We found one and liked it but decided to listen to another one. We liked the second one more so we decided to use it instead. Then we had to make the Music into an mp3 to upload it to the video. We asked a classmate to help us add music due to the fact she already added music to her commercial. She helped us by helping us find the music because once transformed into an mp3 we were confused on how to add it.
The music was put into AV 3 and then fitted into the commercial which was in AV 2. The music was finally added but was playing really loud to the point we couldn’t hear us talking in the videos. I had to drag the song sound down and raise our voices up. So the song was playing low in the background in some parts when we were talkin and loud in places where there was no talking. We had a conflict with not being able to hear our voice in the intro. We ended up deleting that video and adding it back. Once added back we could hear the sound in video and everything was fixed. To finish everything off we added a title in the beginning saying “Nike” which is what the commercial is advertising. Once we adjusted the title and changed the font our commercial was finished and we were done editing. Afterwards I saved the video and then it was sent to my teacher.

Editing the commercial

Blogger
Today in class the computers weren’t working. We had to dump everything to our Sd card or our google drive. Due to not being able to use the computers because pinnacle studios wasn’t working we couldn’t edit today. The SD card was in the reader and put in the computer. The videos were saved in a folder on the computer. We had 30 videos that we had to dump. We decided to dump them to our google drive. We also dumped the videos to a thumb drive. It took under 2 minutes to dump the videos. It was a short quick process.
For the whole dumping process we have to go to pinnacle studios. Once in pinnacle studios and the folder is on the desktop everything has to be dumped. Before everything is dumped the SD card reader goes in the computer. Once the videos are dumped into google drive or an SD Card we set the date and time.  I learned if you can’t find the DCIM then we have to go private. After set to private click on AVCHD then BDMV and go stream. The DCIM has to be saved as AVCHD. Once at stream click high clips and drag it to folder. My group and I had to do that process because we couldn’t find the DCIM. After that was done the SD card was ejected and turned reader in.
Now for the editing process we have to go to the edit screen. Once at edit we go to file and click new movie. I then import and get the footage from the desktop straight to pinnacle studios. After that i click on import, the desktop, a sign, and then click on my topic which is Nike. I will then go through which videos i don’t want. The videos i don’t want are the ones with messed up sound, bloopers, and or have non factors.  After i get rid of the videos i will then continue on with the other raw footage. To continue, i will click start the importing process that’s at the bottom. I will highlight and drag the clips & let them load. To finish i will label everything AV1 (title), AV2(film), and AV3(music) then after everything is labeled i will allow the videos to load.

Editing Blog Lesson

Today my group and I learned about the editing process, tripod, and editing footage. For the editing process I learned that I need to go to pinnacle studios and add a folder to my desktop. Then, put a SD card reader into the computer called dump and i can either add it google slides or my SD card at home. I will then do a DCIM and if i can’t add DCIM i will go to private then click on AVCHD then BDMV and go to stream. Next. highlight clips and drag it to a folder then eject the SD card and turn reader in the camera or SD card into the computer in which then it will go to Dump in.To continue, I will go to the edit screen click file and then new movie. That will then lead me to importing so i will go to m footage from my desktop and go straight to pinnacle and find my topic t\hen click on it.I will check what i want to import and will see the raw footage of my commercial. Then lastly, I will highlight and drag clips to make it load. My videos will then begin to load and it will lead me to the cutting and sound process.
My group and I decided that we will be using a tripod with our camera. The tripod has the handles pan and tilt which will help us proceed to get the certain views of our commercial that we need.It will also help us accomplish getting certain angle. The tripod will not be needed the whole time to collect footage, we will need an hand held camera to record when one of us is running. While doing this it’s going to take many takes because when it’s time to edit we will be in the class and won’t be able to and collect more footage. There are many things that could be wrong with the footage when it comes to the sound it could be off, the wind can affect the hearing of the video and, or it could be to where you can’t even hear anything at all. Everything will have to be saved to the right date and time on the SD card. We will be using a canon camera to accomplish these things. We have to be careful when using the camera and tripod due to how expensive it is. So getting the footage will require lots of carefulness.
When editing we have to cut and edit the videos. When cutting you have to get it right before you don’t want it and have to edit again or go back and collect more footage. To cut you have to hit the razor blade once and click date. Then right click to have many different edits such as: slow up, speed down or reverse. Once open effects editor is clicked you can edit anything. To title the commercial hit the T and type in the title then change it to be seen. Then move it to Track 1 double click on the link and move the title or you can use motion. Last save the commercial folder every time. Relating to the title there is also pinnacle studios. There is Av1, Av2, and Av3. Av1 is for title, AV2 is for the film, and Av4 is for the music.

Planning Blog For Nike Commercial

Today my group and I are planning our blog. We are thinking about who will have what positions. We decided to have I Na’Mya, Ambriellé, and Naiya run while Brandon is the camera man. We made a back-up plan and decided a contingency which will be us going to building 17 stairs in front of media center and running and up down for the commercial.
We also decided on what outfits and props we need to make the commercial successful.

Props- blocks, hurdles
Costumes- workout clothes, spikes
Schedule- Planning blog 10/11, Storyboard 10/15, Film Blog 10/22, Editing blog 10/24
Location- track
Back up plan- Building 17 stairs in front of media center

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

In our commercial, we will be advertising the product Nike. These commercials entail different camera angles, shots, and movements with different edits and mis-en-scene. These commercials usually take place in daylight for natural lighting on a track field. The camera angles usually start from low angles to eye level angles then zooms out to show the actual body and the establishing shot. These directors usually use pan and tracking shots to follow the athletes as they warm up and run.

In these commercials, there are props and costumes such as spikes, water bottles, workout clothes/accessories, hurdles, and blocks. The actors use these props when filming to make the commercial more realistic. The sound in these commercial includes diegetic sounds, voice overs, internal diegetic, ambient sound and no sound when the actor is breathing really loud. In the film Forrest Gump, Jump Cut was used to show a passage of time and the majority of the time, the commercials are usually 30 seconds but the time it takes to run is longer than that.

The most important thing is to zoom into the Nike sign to emphasize that ,that is what the commercial is about. Medium close up and close up are used a lot but extreme close ups will be necessary if you want to depict sweat and muscles. Specifically, in our commercial we want to show a pov shot for viewers to see what the runner is seeing. The starting and closing includes iris and iris out of the logo for more emphasis.

Introductory

Hey there, my name is Na’Mya I tend to go by Mya or Alexia. I’m a senior in high school who is striving to get her Aice diploma. I am 17 and my birthday is on January 26 which makes me an Aquarius. I love to run track, in fact I’m the captain of the track team at my school. My favorite events are the 4x1, 100, and 200. I was born in Alaska and grew up in Virginia & Florida.
When you first meet me, I’m very quiet but as you get to know me, I’m goofy, rude, talk a lot, and laugh a lot. I’m a mommy's girl so I tend to act like her and be around her all the time. I love listening to music it soothes me and helps get stuff off my mind. It’s my redemption from negative things that go on in my life. I’m kind of weird, I’m a people person but at the same time I’m anti-social. I don’t really like being in a new environment because I tend to just stay to myself. I don’t like meeting new people I like to stick to People I already know. I am an introvert.
I like when people remember the little things about me and actually study me in a good way, I love talking about space and the ocean it amazes me to think about what else in this world has not been discovered, I like talking to people that can continue on a conversation I strongly dislike when people don’t know how to. I like when I automatically click with people and the vibe is great and it’s no awkwardness, I love to travel, and I can’t wait till I start traveling to new places throughout the world. I dislike hearing people smack, when my personal space is interrupted, liars, when I’m trying to listen to music and people keep talking to me, being confused, and I can't stand math. It’s way more but that’s the basics of Na’Mya.
